谁知道，他喝干了渭河水，还是不解渴。
于是，他计划向北走，去喝一个大泽的水。
可是，夸父真实太累太渴了，当他走到中途时，身材就再也允许不住了，缓缓地倒下去，死了。
夸父死后，他的身材变成了一座大山。
这就是“夸父山”，听说，位于如今河南省灵宝县西三十五里灵湖峪和池峪两边。
夸父死时扔下的手杖，也变成了一片五彩云霞一样的桃林。
桃林的地势险要，前人把这里叫做“桃林寨”。
夸父死了，他并没捉住太阳。
可是天帝被他的就义、英勇的英雄精气所感动，处罚了太阳。
从此，他的部族年年风调雨顺，万物昌盛。
夸父的后辈子孙寓居在夸父山下，生儿育女，滋生后辈，生存是十分幸福。
